The first commercial hot sauces were produced in the USA in the early 1800s, and Louisiana in the south proved to be a perfect growing region for hot peppers imported from Mexico. The most famous hot sauce from the region is of course, Tabasco, made using chillies from the Mexican state of the same name. Here we're making our own version with a unique blend of fiery Mexican chillies, garlic powder and vinegar to give a piquant kick to any meal!

Recipe

Louisiana Hot Sauce Recipe

You Need:

1 tsp tomato puree

60ml vinegar (white wine or cider vinegar is best)

Method:

Simmer the tomato puree, vinegar, 250ml water, LOUISIANA HOT SAUCE BLEND and ½ tsp salt in a covered pan for 10 minutes or until the pepper flakes in the spice blend are very soft

Carefully blend the mixture to a smooth sauce, adding an extra splash of water if necessary

Strain the sauce to remove any large pieces then leave to cool. The sauce will keep for at least a week in a sealed container in the fridge
