Dhansak curry originates from the Parsi community in Mumbai, where the characteristically sweet and sour flavour usually comes from the addition of tamarind. In British Indian restaurants the tamarind tends to be replaced with pineapple which adds texture and a lovely sweetness to this simple dish.
