This spicy chutney is reserved for special occasions in Somalia, where it’s also aptly known as ‘feast hot sauce’!

Traditionally it contains tamarind pulp but it also works brilliantly with dates and lemon juice for a delicious caramelised sweet and sour flavour.

  • 1 green chilli - roughly chopped (seeds removed if you prefer less heat)

  • 40g pitted dates or raisins
