Kerabu is a salad eaten by the Nyonya community of Malaysia.

Many different variations exist, all of which celebrate the balance of a hint of chilli with the sweet, sour and salty flavours in the dressing.

Shopping List

  • 1 cucumber - peeled, deseeded and thinly sliced
  • 200g shallots or 1 large red onion - very thinly sliced
  • 1 red chilli - very thinly sliced (optional)
  • 10g bunch of coriander - roughly chopped
  • 1 lime
  • 1 tbsp fish sauce
  • 50ml oil (sunflower or vegetable oil is best)
  • 2 tbsp desiccated coconut
