Grilled Tomato Ezme Salad

This salad is a fabulous addition to a summer BBQ, and the smoky flavours you get from grilling all the ingredients adds an extra dimension to this simple Turkish dish. It's a great way to use up a glut of tomatoes as you can use any size, shape or colour - even ones that haven't fully ripened will work very well here.

Shopping List

  • 1 red onion - cut into wedges
  • 8 tomatoes - left whole
  • 1 pepper (any colour) - left whole
  • 2 cloves of garlic - left whole in their skins
  • 10g bunch of soft herbs (eg mint, parsley, coriander, dill etc) (optional) - roughly chopped
  • 1 lemon
  • 2 tsp tomato puree
  • 4 tbsp good quality olive oil
  • ½ tsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp pomegranate molasses or use 2 tsp balsamic vinegar mixed with 1 tsp sugar
